Mobile fundraising apps for nonprofits

Mobile fundraising apps are a great way to raise money for charity. Fundraising is the lifeblood of any charitable program. Crowdfunding is the latest way to leverage the internet by using the collective power of a large number of small donations that when pooled together add up to a large sum. It all started with the mobile phone fundraising campaign, Text for Haiti in 2010 after a devastating earthquake. Donors could contribute to the Red Cross by simply texting Haiti to 90999. This real time charitable giving campaign went viral thanks to social media and millions of dollars were raised this way, $10 at a time. Since then, very few mobile apps have become available for nonprofits. A big roadblock is Apple s ruling against apps in its appstore facilitating charitable donations on thir iOS platform in 2010.
